Before you access the Akashic Records, you want to make sure you are prepared physically, mentally, and energetically to receive the wisdom and transformational healing within the Records. In this post, I will share 10 simple invitations to help you feel grounded, present, supported, and open as you enter your Akashic Records.
IN THIS POST, you will learn:
What are the Akashic Records?
What you can expect when accessing the Akashic Records
How to prepare to access the Akashic Records
Invitations to be aware of when accessing the Akashic Records
How to ground before opening the Records
Next steps to accessing the Akashic Records
When I first began accessing the Akashic Records, I had a list of rituals I thought I absolutely needed to complete before I opened them. I hear this concept a lot from clients and those who are interested in the Records. They want to know exactly what to do and what to expect. Or they think by not doing everything perfectly they can somehow mess this up (just fyi, you can't mess this up!).
First, I want to say that I am here to prepare you for and guide you on this journey. I am not here to give you hard-and-fast rules or dogma to follow. Accessing the Akashic Records is a deeply personal experience. Through my own journey, I’ve learned that there are no absolutes. When you surrender and trust the process, that is when the magic happens!
My intention is to help you release fear of the unknown and remove any obstacles blocking you from accessing the Records and receiving their beautiful healing.
That’s why we will explore invitations to be aware of when accessing the Akashic Records. I like to call them invitations, not rules, because I invite you to try them and explore. In my experience, these invitations have led to the deepest connection to the Records.
Before we dive in, let’s do a quick refresher ... what are the Akashic Records?
The Akashic Records are a remembering of your Soul and its unique journey. They contain everything that every Soul has ever thought, said, and done over the course of its existence — from past lives, to present life, and all future possibilities.
You can ask the Records infinite questions and receive guidance from your Masters, Teachers, and Loved Ones to support you on your path.

What can you expect when accessing the Akashic Records?
Everyone experiences the Records differently. Some people will receive visions, hear messages, see colors, or simply feel a connection and a deep inner knowing. Sometimes messages will come through more strongly, other times more subtly. There is no “right” experience, so I encourage you to let go of perfectionism and release expectations (more on this later).
When you access the Akashic Records, you will likely feel a similar subtle energy as your intuition. We’re all getting messages all the time — it’s just a matter of how tapped in we are to receive them.
In my experience doing Akashic Records readings with clients, the information that comes through often reaffirms what they already knew to be true. The Records feel like a more direct connection to your intuition.
Invitations to be aware of when accessing the Akashic Records:
While there are no rules for accessing the Records, these are simple invitations that you can do from anywhere to help you ground and receive before you open them.
1. Be in the space of receiving
This is the biggest invitation! In order to be in a space of receiving, you want to be fully present and tuned into the moment. I suggest you don’t open the Records when you are distracted or stressed by outside influences. You want to go in clear and open to receive the messages from your Masters, Teachers, and Loved Ones.
2. Ask for permission to access to the Akashic Records
If you are opening the Records of another person, you must have their permission. A gentle reminder, you must be 18 or older to access the Akashic Records.
3. Use a person’s full name
When opening the Records, use the person’s full legal name.
4. Practice grounding rituals
It is so important to feel grounded in your space and body so you’re able to receive the healing within the Records. Grounding looks and feels different for everyone so feel into what’s right for you.
Here are some grounding rituals I love:
Connecting to your breath with a few cycles of intentional inhales and exhales — your breath is always there to anchor you
Meditation and/or breathwork (you can find guided meditations and breathwork practices in the Inner Alchemy Course)
Smudging with a tool that is aligned with your ancestry
Taking a walk outside
Playing soothing music
Intuitive movement to shift your energy
Journaling to release how you are feeling
5. Set your sacred space
Setting a sacred space may be a part of your grounding practice. This means creating a soothing environment that helps you drop into receiving. You can clear your space energetically with a candle, flower essences, or through smudging.
This is completely optional. Know that you don’t need to be in a certain environment to access the Records. Most people envision sitting on a pillow and meditating when opening the Records, but really you can do anything that helps you receive. You can go for a walk, sit on the beach, visit a museum, read a book, or do a creative project. Think of the activities and places that make you feel open, grounded, and present.
6. Avoid mind altering substances
I recommend that you do not take any recreational drugs or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before accessing the Akashic Records. This will ensure that you do not feel cloudy or disconnected during your reading. You want to be a clear channel to receive.
7. Have a journal nearby
I love to have a dedicated Akashic journal to document and reflect on the experiences in the Records. When you access the Akashic Records, be prepared for a lot of information to come through.
Have your journal handy so you can jot down notes, stream of consciousness thoughts, and intuitive messages. Give yourself space to process the information and revisit it in your journal anytime.
8. Go in with an open mind and heart
I talked about releasing expectations before, and this is a big one! Please don’t feel pressure to receive in a certain way on a certain timeline. Allow your guides to come through in whatever way they want to. Honor where you are and know that however and whenever your guides communicate with you, it is in your highest good.
9. Be gentle with yourself
It’s important to know that the Akashic Records are a subtle energy. You probably won’t open them for the first time and feel strong messages pouring in. Be patient with yourself and know that your connection with the Records will strengthen and evolve as you continue to return.
10. Trust the process
Trust that you were led to the Records for a reason and they are a safe, beautiful, uplifting place to be. Your guides will only give you the information you are ready to receive and what will serve your highest good. Keep showing up and over time, you will build trust within the Records and within yourself.
When you are grounded and open, you will be a clear channel to receive transformational healing and guidance from the Akashic Records.
