Introduction to the Akashic Records

Danielle Beinstein is an astrologer, spiritual counselor, meditation guide and one of the most insightful and eloquent writers I have ever come across. Her perspective on astrology, spirituality, life and current events is one that I turn to often and that I instantly feel connected to.

After following Danielle on social media for quite some time I was elated when I saw on Instagram that the Moon Circle she co-facilitates with Paula Mallis in LA would be coming to Maha Rose in Brooklyn. I signed up immediately and after a beautiful circle filled with insight, tears and connection I introduced myself and signed up for a one-on-one natal chart reading.

We completed the in-depth spiritual and astrological counseling session via skype and I soaked in so many beautiful, helpful and thoughtful jewels of wisdom from her. It was a session that brought me such guidance, comfort and room for growth. I still refer to the notes and chart often.

I am honored to bring Danielle’s light and energy to this site and to give our community a look into her journey, lessons learned, advice that we can all listen to and her view on health, beauty + style.

If you would like a reading with Danielle (I HIGHLY recommend!) via skype or phone you can book an appointment here or email her at for an in-person appointment + spiritual counseling. If you are in LA she teaches meditation classes at Unplug Meditation, co-facilitates a monthly New Moon Circle with Paula Mallis and for your at home rituals, pick up a copy of the New Moon Journal.

DANIELLE BEINSTEIN • Astrologer, Spiritual Counselor + Meditation Guide

Tell us about your background, the journey that led you to this point and what brought you down a path of healing + self-discovery?
I grew up in Manhattan, the epicenter of achievement. I love academia, culture, and the arts, and I’ve always been politically minded. But something kept pulling at me. In the end, I followed my heart. The truth is that this path chose me.

When were you first introduced to astrology? What was that experience like?
I discovered astrology at 19, while an undergrad at NYU. I think it found me. Because the truth is, I could not wrap my mind around it. I had to surrender its truth.

What does astrology mean to you and how has studying + teaching it shifted your perspective of life?
I could speak to this endlessly, but the number one gift its given me is acceptance. Acceptance of individuals and their paths. Acceptance of myself and mine.

How do you work with your clients + what can they expect from a session with you?
I work mostly over Skype and the phone, but also meet clients in-person. Every session is different, because every person I meet with is at a particular juncture. I share what I see and then dispense spiritual and emotional guidance as I see fit. It’s very much a conversation.

How can we use our natal chart as a reference + guide to navigating our experiences?
In every way. Understanding one’s natal chart gives one a leg up. Self-awareness, on all levels, is a gift. Knowing who we are increases our consciousness, adds purposefulness and intentionality to what we do and say.

Who/what/where do you draw inspiration from?
Art, music, literature, theatre. Being in nature restores me, but it’s the human perception of the complexity of this world that fills my soul.

Best advice you ever received?
These exact words were told to me in my 20s, when I shared my desire to be protected and provided for with an older male friend of mine: “I couldn’t give you enough money to make you feel financially secure. I couldn’t tell you you’re beautiful enough to make you feel beautiful. I couldn’t listen to your ideas enough to make you feel smart and interesting and I could not fuck you enough to make you feel sexy. You have to know that you are provided for and protected by God and you have to feel these things for yourself, always. Build your foundation on it. You have all of these qualities. You just have to own them.” Changed my life on the spot. And haven’t looked back since. Most generous words anyone has ever said to me.

Style/beauty/health/fitness professionals you can’t live without?
There’s nothing I can’t live without! I am in love with Jenni Kayne’s mules, Chelsea boots and Desert boots, though. Love her shoes.

What does self-care mean to you?
Listening to and trusting myself, following my intuition. Setting boundaries and getting enough down/alone time.

New Moon Circle Journal

What are your favorite products in your holistic beauty cabinet? Organic face oils, like In Fiore’s Calme and Nucifera.

Beauty rituals when you travel? Drink lots and lots of water and lay with my feet up against the wall.

What is your current skincare routine? Morning: I don’t wash my face in the morning. But I do put oil or cream on. Night: Wash lightly and moisturize. I’m very low maintenance. I find the less I use the better.

What role does fashion and personal style play in your life? How does this tie into your view on wellness? It plays a role, in that I love beautiful things and clothes but I don’t spend time thinking about it. I’m a minimalist. I like and need to be comfortable, always. I pretty much wear cream, navy, brown or black every day. I’m trying to add more color, but my New Yorker seems to always win out.

Outfit you feel most comfortable in? Jeans, white t shirt, sweater and boots/ flats.

Favorite stores/places to shop (online or in-person)?Heist and Guild (on Abbot Kinney), go-to for every day: Jenni Kayne + Raquel Allegra.

Favorite piece(s) of jewelry and the story behind them? A gold X ring designed for me personally by Savannah Lauren King of Shop Third Eye, small gold and diamond earrings I bought in Jerusalem the week of my Bat Mitzvah and a solitaire diamond necklace (on a gold chain) that my Dad had made for me.

What is your philosophy on food and wellness? Eat clean. Eat well. I grew up going to restaurants all over Manhattan, so in some ways I’m more comfortable eating out than in. I’m not exactly proud of this. That being said, is there anything better than a great home cooked meal? I eat a lot of greens and grass fed beef once a month during my cycle. I don’t deny myself but what I crave tends to be healthy (I’m a Virgo!)

What is a typical day of meals for you? Breakfast: Lately it’s a Pitaya Bowl from Beaming in Santa Monica. I top it with Bee Pollen and Cacao Nibs. Other days it’s cage free eggs. Lunch: Salad, usually Kale is involved. Dinner: If I’m home, a rice bowl with greens and an egg on top.

Your favorite dish to cook at home? A simple white fish, with seasoning and olive oil and greens. But I’m not in any way a cook. It’s kind of embarrassing!

Mind, Body and Soul

Favorite books on astrology and spirituality? I tend to read literature and fiction more, actually. But spiritual writers I love: Elizabeth Gilbert, Anne Lamott, Cheryl Strayed, Pema Chodron. Life is so messy, isn’t it? I appreciate writers who are willing to explore the nuances inherent in being alive.

Favorite quote or mantra? Anne Lamott “I do not at all understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.”

Current favorite ways to stay active? Hiking + yoga

How do you unwind at the end of the day and on weekends? Sunset walks and reading. I need a lot of downtime.

What are the “jewels” in your life? (i.e. your passions, favorite topics, people, places, etc.) Theatre and literature. My friends and sisters. I’m very politically-minded. I’ve been that way since I was a kid. I’m interested in cultural and business trends as they reflect the collective. I love history. And travel. My favorite place on earth is probably Italy, but there are too many places I haven’t been.

What are your dreams for the future + projects you are excited about? Travel and writing. That’s how I see my life unfolding. Just more and more discovery. And my intention is to start holding self-discovering/writing retreats.
